Mrs.O

For the person who did not vote for Obama because of his health care or foreign policies,
here is Mrs-O, a blog about the First Lady's fashions.

This same person will probably appreciate that all the photos selected for this
post are of her wearing Gap or J.Crew.

cabin fever

pre-fab cabins...too cute!

collector's edition

I was at my friend's house last night, and she had a Barbie collectors catalog sitting around. It brought back random memories of my grandma and my childhood...so I did a little research. Some of these dolls are really gorgeous, not to mention retro and amazing!

Raow- NZ

My friend, Beth, in NZ sent over a link to her boyfriend, Liam's, latest creation. He designed this lamp to raise money for their trip to Europe. It is CNC machined, self assembled, flat packed, 100% recyclable packaging, designed to be a floor lamp/feature light, and uses a sustainable source of wood.

I love the perfect packaging and website just as much as the lamp itself.

Buy it here.

A celebration of all things paper

The blog, Oh So Beautiful Paper, is just that.
The problem with finding good blogs is the impulse to
continue hitting "older" until you've completely seen it all.
Too many blogs + not enough hours + creative overload.

oh spring weddings. shut up already.

Yet I fully identify with this wedding invitation.
plus the greatest honeymoon photo ever

ice cream social

Adrienne!

Looks like we have an ice cream social to attend to while you're here. Saturday, July 25th.

Abbytrysagain is putting on a fun get together of like minded artsy and crafty types where we'll be selling all kinds of things-including photographs, vintage goodies, letterpress loveliness, beautiful modern jewelery, screen prints and cupcakes and OF COURSE...some ice cream! Even if you don't have a lot to spend, we hope you'll come and join us for some fun times listening to some live music outside and take a picture or two in our makeshift polaroid photo booth!

Portland does it again

BLUEPRINT AMERICA

Road to the FutureVideo: Full Documentary

This is a great PBS documentary comparing transportation options between Denver, NYC, and Portland. The Portland portion was very interesting. It focused on the huge population of bike commuters along with how the government has, since the 70's, been using the federal money allocated for highways towards alternative forms of transportation. I love this town.

box office

The Box Office consists of 12 office/studio spaces constructed from 32 recycled shipping containers on an abandoned strip of Providence history - the former Harris Lumber site. The project was designed by Joe Haskett, principal at Distill Studio, and developed by truth box, inc. Among the many green features are a well-insulated exterior with high performance windows and doors, high efficiency heat pumps for economical heating and cooling, energy recovery ventilators (ERV) to conserve energy and to provide fresh air, and low-energy light fixtures and daylight harvesting to reduce electrical usage.

city of culture

Due to open in 2012, The City of Culture will have taken ten years to build, at a cost of half a billion dollars. Renowned architect Peter Eisenman designed each building to blend the area's medieval roots with the futurist constructions taking shape.

Saw this on a Discovery Channel show called "Build It Bigger" It's a pretty neat show, the host is an architect/thinks he's funny, but they have some really neat episodes, always about architecture :D

Tape Art

This past May downtown Greensboro looked a little different thanks to a special collaboration between the Weatherspoon Art Museum, Downtown Greensboro Inc., and the ArtBeat Greensboro Festival.

During the ArtBeat Festival the first week in May, artists Michael Townsend, Colin Bliss and Paige Bradlley created a series of public tape art drawings on the facades of downtown retail shops, restaurants, and other highly trafficked areas that promises to bring the community together in a unique way. The project is entitled Tape Art: Drawn Together.

They premiered at Elsewhere on First Friday. I went and watched for a little bit. Admittedly, I am more impressed with their patience to do this than their creative genius. Pictures of all locations can be seen here. Judge for yourselves.

Automat

It's interesting how something so random can continue to show up in the same week. While reading Steinbeck's, "Travels With Charley" he mentioned visiting an Automat and I planned to look up what that was. A few days later my roommate shows me the last article in her latest National Geographic, which just happens to be about Automats. So here it is ...a vending machine restaurant. The first automat in the U.S. was opened June 12, 1902 in Philly by Horn and Hardart.
