It's interesting how something so random can continue to show up in the same week. While reading Steinbeck's, "Travels With Charley" he mentioned visiting an Automat and I planned to look up what that was. A few days later my roommate shows me the last article in her latest National Geographic, which just happens to be about Automats. So here it is ...a vending machine restaurant. The first automat in the U.S. was opened June 12, 1902 in Philly by Horn and Hardart.
